Every good manager and leader knows that performance within their organisation is fundamentally linked to the motivation of the people within their team…
Yet when I ask the question…
What are you currently doing to improve motivation within your team(s)?
I often get a garbled answer, before in truth most admitting that either they aren’t doing a great deal or what they are doing appears to be relatively ineffective!
Why is this?
Well for one it is just easier to focus time, energy and resources on the technical performance aspects of jobs which is both easy to measure and see the result of, in fact often up to 90% of training and personal development focuses in this area…
Secondly there is a lack of understanding of what breeds performance, knowledgeable managers know that the key to performance is developing not only their people’s technical skills but also their communication, leadership and influencing skills as well as their MOTIVATION…
Thirdly there is a lack of knowledge of what you can do with motivation so that you can both see an improvement and do something consistent and fair for everyone; and in this way motivation has been the most difficult of the three key areas of performance (direction, skills & motivation) to deal with.
Thankfully that is now changing and Magenta Coaching Solutions has teamed up with Sustainable Gov to provide you with a solution to improving the motivation of your teams and individuals…
Motivational Mapping is based upon the concept of Enneagrams and Edgar Schein’s career anchors and it provides an easy and quick way to find out what motivates each member of your team, the current level of motivation within your team and crucially it provides you with a strategy of how to lead manage and reward each person within your team based upon what actually motivates them.
Every Manager/Leader tends to have a style and that style will only be as effective as those that style suits, motivational maps provide the key to being able to adapt management style to suit and positively impact performance.
Just think how much performance would improve if every senior manager within your business new how to motivate and acted upon that information to positively impacted their teams performance.
Crucially in contrast to other profiling tools motivational maps measure motivation so that you can re-assess progress to demonstrate tangible improvements and provide additional guidance and support where needed within the organisation…
Now stop some of you may be falling into the trap of thinking you already know what motivates your team, maybe MONEY perhaps??
However money is only one of nine career motivators which fall into three categories, relationship based, achievement based and personal development based motivators…
As part of the motivational mapping process you find out not only what each team members map looks like what motivates them specifically, you also receive a series of strategies and coaching tools to help managers to adapt management style to the needs of each individual.
You also receive a team map identifying overall team motivation and motivational trends.
This helps identify what could be done in future with regard to recruitment to better suit the balance of the team and make sure that the people working for you have motivational preferences which suit their role and that the teams motivational preferences balance and complement each other.
